Volunteers work with the Refugee Resettlement Department School Impact Services team to help students in the afterschool program with English proficiency, social learning, emotional learning, and homework assistance.
Students attend Houston ISD and Alief ISD schools, but the afterschool program takes place at off-site locations, such as churches, apartment complex facilities, etc. Generally, students are in 1st to 7th grades (7- to 12-year-olds).
LOCATION: Westchase area near S. Gessner and Westpark Tollway. The physical address will be provided once volunteers are fully cleared.
DAYS/TIMES:
Session 1: August 25-November 24, Mondays and Wednesdays, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., each day.
Session 2: September 8-December 15, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., each day.
We need volunteers who are helpful, compassionate, and good with children. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and meet all Catholic Charities qualifications, including a criminal background check, TB test, and drug screen.

- Criminal background check (paid for by the agency; donations appreciated)

- Must be fluent in English
- Notarized Affidavit for Applicants for Employment with a Licensed Operation or Registered Child-Care Home
- Must be willing to take a TB test and drug screen (paid for by the agency)
- Must have familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
