Front Desk Assistants are the welcoming face of the Mamie George Community Center.

Volunteer Assistants greet and direct visitors, answer and transfer phone calls, provide program and event information to clients, assist clients with intake into certain programs as well as filing and other administrative tasks as needed.

We are seeking Front Desk Assistants who are friendly, patient, professional, and culturally sensitive. They must possess good communication skills, including the ability to speak and write clear English. The ability to speak and write Spanish also is preferred, but not necessary.

Do you enjoy talking with people and helping to create community? As a volunteer Greeter in Patty's Café, you can do just that by greeting senior adults and monitoring the check-in system

We are looking for friendly volunteers who enjoy working in a restaurant or café environment.

Pre-Service Training

PLEASE READ before your shift!

When you enter the center, please check in on the tablet by the front door with you name/email/phone number to get credit for your volunteer hours. You will checkout at the end of your shift as well. You don't need to stop at the front-desk, you can proceed to the Patty's Café at the end of the hall, past the bathrooms.

You will ensure that seniors check in when they come to eat lunch. You will stand at the touch screen computer and ask seniors to check in, either by scanning their cards with the barcode reader or typing in their name and phone number (some seniors may need assistance).

If they successfully check in, they should see a screen with various activities that they can "check" to show that they participated. They must "check" Patty's Café if they are eating lunch in the cafeteria.

If a message appears saying their account is locked, please refer them to the front desk to fill out some paperwork before eating lunch.

Our Café Crew volunteers serve lunch to Fort Bend County senior adults in Patty's Café. Volunteers will serve and restock food and supplies to the service area and will clean the serving area as needed. 

Café Crew Server volunteers must obtain a Food Handler's Permit. (Catholic Charities will pay for the training.)

Please "respond" to the opportunity to create an account and finish the needed qualifications. Then notify Hope Gassett (hgassett@catholiccharities.org) for a link to take the Texas Food Handler certificate course.

Our Café Crew Assistants ensure patrons have a great experience by assisting clients with trays to their tables and picking up trays for clients needing assistance. We are looking for volunteers who are looking for a chance to interact with our senior clients with a smile or a kind gesture. Our wonderful cafe customers are an enjoyable group who love to socialize and none of whom have ever met a stranger!

Our Café Cleaning Crew ensures our kitchen runs smoothly by maintaining a clean and organized environment in our kitchen area. Volunteers will assist in operating the dishwasher, disposing of kitchen trash/boxes, etc., and any additional tasks as needed.

Our Café Cleaning Crew ensures our dining area remains clean and orderly by wiping down tables, chairs, and table condiments. Volunteers will also keep the floors tidy by sweeping up as clients leave their tables and assisting clients with their trays as needed.

Let's get the party started by decorating for our Luau Senior Prom by transforming our rooms into an oasis setting of tablecloths, lanterns, a tiki bar and more!

Help us plate the food to be served to our senior prom guests.

Serve the food to the seated prom guests.

Help pick up dishes off the tables when the guests have finished using them.

Volunteers will deliver groceries to home bound seniors once every two weeks within Fort Bend County.

We need volunteers who are committed to delivering on a regular basis. Once you have been cleared through this website, the supervisor will go over the process with you in person at the Mamie George Community Center in Trini's Market.
