Front Desk Assistants are the welcoming face of the Mamie George Community Center.

Volunteer Assistants greet and direct visitors, answer and transfer phone calls, provide program and event information to clients, assist clients with intake into certain programs as well as filing and other administrative tasks as needed.

We are seeking Front Desk Assistants who are friendly, patient, professional, and culturally sensitive. They must possess good communication skills, including the ability to speak and write clear English. The ability to speak and write Spanish also is preferred, but not necessary.

New volunteers must attend orientation within 30 days of signing up for their first volunteer opportunity. This orientation will be held IN PERSON at the Mamie George Community Center in Richmond (Fort Bend County).

Trini’s Market, located at the Mamie George Community Center in Richmond, Texas, is a self-select food pantry available to Fort Bend County senior adults in need of food assistance. We offer a wide variety of canned goods, dry goods, fresh produce, meats, breads and beverages. Our guests are able to select and shop for the items in which they are most in need. 

Volunteers will help in the Hewitt Warehouse adjacent to the Market and complete some or all of the following duties:

Do you enjoy talking with people and helping to create community? As a volunteer Greeter in Patty's Café, you can do just that by greeting senior adults and monitoring the check-in system

We are looking for friendly volunteers who enjoy working in a restaurant or café environment.

Pre-Service Training

PLEASE READ before your shift!

When you enter the center, please check in on the tablet by the front door with you name/email/phone number to get credit for your volunteer hours. You will checkout at the end of your shift as well. You don't need to stop at the front-desk, you can proceed to the Patty's Café at the end of the hall, past the bathrooms.

You will ensure that seniors check in when they come to eat lunch. You will stand at the touch screen computer and ask seniors to check in, either by scanning their cards with the barcode reader or typing in their name and phone number (some seniors may need assistance).

If they successfully check in, they should see a screen with various activities that they can "check" to show that they participated. They must "check" Patty's Café if they are eating lunch in the cafeteria.

If a message appears saying their account is locked, please refer them to the front desk to fill out some paperwork before eating lunch.

Café Hosts ensure patrons have a great experience and help keep the cafe looking its best by clearing and wiping down tables, sweeping the floor, and washing dishes. We are looking for volunteers who are looking for a chance to interact with our senior clients with a smile or a kind gesture. Our wonderful cafe customers are an enjoyable group who love to socialize and none of whom have ever met a stranger!

You can check in with one of the staff or volunteers who are in the café to receive cleaning supplies and any further instructions. Try to be proactive about asking people if they need assistance or if you can take their trash for them.

Everyone loves a great resale shop and that is just who we need to volunteer in our Gracious Gifts Resale Shop, located inside the Mamie George Community Center. The shop provides senior adults with affordably priced personal items and gifts. Our volunteers sort, price, and display donated items. Being in the gift shop is a good way to get to know the seniors of the community center.

To be successful, volunteers should:

Our Café Crew volunteers serve lunch to Fort Bend County senior adults in Patty's Café.  They may assist with carrying trays to the table for those who may require assistance.

 Café Crew Server volunteers must obtain a Food Handler's Permit. (Catholic Charities will pay for the training.)

Please "respond" to the opportunity to create an account and finish the needed qualifications. Then notify Hope Gassett (hgassett@catholiccharities.org) for a link to take the Texas Food Handler certificate course.

Every week nearly 600 families come to the Mamie George Community Center to help meet their food needs.

Volunteers will assist with set up and sort and distribute groceries to families in need via a drive-thru method. Some volunteers may direct traffic while others pack the groceries into the trunks of client vehicles.

When you enter the center, please be sure to check in on the tablet by the door with you name/email/phone number to get credit for your volunteer hours. You will sign out at the end of your shift as well.

NOTE: We cannot accept court mandated community service hours for any of our volunteer opportunities.

Parents/Guardians: If your child is 13 or older, they will need to create their own account. If you are volunteering with your child, please create an additional account for yourself and sign up both you and your child to ensure we have the needed number of volunteers per opportunity. If your child is under 13 years old, please "respond as a team" and select how many reserved spots you will want for children under 13. You will need to sign a waiver for each child under 13 that is volunteering.

Ages 12+ are able to volunteer with a parent/guardian accompanying them, ages 14+ are able to volunteer by themselves.

If you're not afraid to get your hands dirty, help us grow our community garden! You will help plant and care for plants that produce fruits & vegetables used in our food pantry or as a part of a healthy lunch for senior adults.

No experience necessary! Just being a reliable volunteer and able to take direction is all that is needed.

Volunteers will deliver groceries to home bound seniors once every two weeks within Fort Bend County.

We need volunteers who are committed to delivering on a regular basis. Once you have been cleared through this website, the supervisor will go over the process with you in person at the Mamie George Community Center in Trini's Market.
