Volunteer: Host a Back-to-School Drive for Refugee ChildrenRefugee Resettlement’s School Impact program helps refugee families enroll their children in school. For many of these families, it is the first time their children will receive any education. And for the children who have attended school before, their education was interrupted and incomplete because of violence in their home country or inconsistency of teaching in the refugee camps. We want to make sure the enrollment process is smooth and easy. By providing each child with a backpack full of school supplies, you can help children be prepared and ready to learn on their first day of school. We recommend filling a clear or mesh backpack with the following supplies: 2 folders, plastic with pockets and brads 8 pencils 5 pens 2 pink erasers 2 glue sticks 1 pair of scissors, blunt 1 pencil sharpener 1 pack of 24 crayons 1 pack of 24 colored pencils 1 pack of 10 markers 1 ruler 1 composition notebook 1 spiral notebookA personal note of encouragement (optional)Please arrange details for pick up with Ashlie Gutierrez, Volunteer Coordinator, via email at agutierrez@catholiccharities.org or phone 713.874.6571.
